Since Dr. Birchansky’s introduction of no-stitch cataract surgery in 1991, Dr. Birchansky has performed over 40,000 no-stitch surgeries.  He is committed to providing high quality comprehensive surgical care in a non-hospital setting and is well known for “setting the standards for excellence”.

Dr. Birchansky was born and raised in Miami, Florida.  He attended the University of Miami School of Medicine.  In 1985, he graduated with high honors from medical school.  He is a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.

Dr. Birchansky completed his internal medicine internship in Orlando, Florida.  In 1986, he moved to Iowa, where he completed his residency at the world-renowned Department of Ophthalmology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  He enjoyed the quality of life and the genuine people of Iowa so much that he stayed here to practice.

Dr. Birchansky received board certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1991.  He received further board certification in LASIK and Cataract and Lens Implant Surgery from the American Board of Eye Surgery  (A.B.E.S.).

Many of the cataract surgery techniques that Dr. Birchansky adopted early on have become the standard of care nationwide. This vast experience has led him to one of the lowest complication rates of any surgeon.

As an innovator, he has brought numerous advances to Eastern Iowa.
